After completing a Bachelor of Music on the Ney (Persian Flute), and Master of Music in Western classical flute performance while teaching at Tehran Music School, Mr. BastaniNezhad began his PhD at Monash University in 2010.
Until recently, Arya taught at Tehran’s Art University and Conservatory of Music. He has been lecturer on Solfege and sight reading based on Lotfian method, Ney (Persian Flute), Flute, Ensemble and the Basics of Musical Performance. He is the founder of Farabi Choir, the choir of Tehran Art University. Arya has also played Flute and piccolo in Tehran Philharmonic Orchestra under Dr. Lotfi from 2002 to 2005. Arya has also received precious honourary rewards as selected Ney and flute player of the country. Over the past 6 years he focused his work on “Children Music Education” for which he established a music centre in Iran.
Currently Arya is doing his PhD in Music Mducation at Monash University. Focusing on hybridized forms of music pedagogy, Arya researches meaning and purpose as well as the immense and sublime humanistic worthiness underlying the ways music is transmitted. His particular area of interest focuses on the ways that musical values are re-negotiated in modern Iranian pedagogy. He examines the master-disciple interactions that highlight the significance of musical transmission as a means to develop the self and embody intricate pedagogical behaviours. The multicultural characteristics of the Australian context, particularly Monash University, have contributed to his research methodology in terms of the variety of pedagogical approaches available through the teachers of various nationalities.
Arya has recently established the “Victorian Persian Arts Centre” in Melbourne, presenting both private lessons as well as group instruction (small ensembles). He has also recently been selected as a tutor for Solfege and Ear Training at Monash Music Conservatorium.
